“My wife and I were looking to convert our home to a rental, and we needed to do it on a tight budget in a short amount of time. The high-level overview of the project was to remodel the master bathroom, convert a living room to a bedroom, and tile about 1000 square feet. In the end, we also asked them to fix many small items around the house from finishing the garage cabinets to installing new baseboards and dozens of little items in between. I found an ad for WoodStone Construction and decided to give them a call after a bid from a “friend of a friend” came in much higher than expected. WoodStone came in at 40% less than the competitor and was available to commence work almost immediately. There are several crews that work for WoodStone, so they were able to fit me in quickly with the other projects they were working on. Even though I knew it’s best to list everything I wanted done at the start, I did have several additional requests that they were able to work in quickly with the rest of the project. Although my wife and I aren’t very creative individuals, we do appreciate good design when we see it. We asked Josh’s advice on several design decisions during the remodel projects and he usually gave us several alternatives. We were very pleased with how each of them turned out – for example, where to place the new closet, how to design the closet, and where to place the new door. He even offered some suggestions, the most beneficial one was that we replace the carpeting in the hallway with tile. The reasoning was that the hallway gets a lot of traffic and it eliminates the need to try and match carpet from the hallway to the bedrooms. He also noted that some of the exterior wood structure was weathered and needed painting before it became affected by dry rot. I liked the fact that there was a broad range of workers available to work on the projects because it meant I wouldn’t have to pay general contractor rates for all the tasks. On a few occasions, I was given the choice of having apprentices do the work which I decided to do. Their rates were a little less, yet the work was still done very well and in a timely manner. I met most if not all of the workers and was very impressed by their competency, courtesy, professionalism, and non-intrusiveness. It was quickly apparent that everyone took pride in their work. The bottom line is that WoodStone Construction did an outstanding job for our family, and I highly recommend them to friends and colleagues.” ~Rick Archibald

WoodStone Construction did a great job helping us finish a large redwood deck and make some modifications to our kitchen. He is professional in his approach, takes initiative when needed, is reliable and trustworthy and the quality of his work is excellent. We are planning to ask him to do some work in our house again soon.” ~Michael V.

“WoodStone Construction has done a number of small jobs for the school that I oversee. The quality of workmanship has always been superb far beyond what I had expected or asked for. Josh, the owner has a creative flair and an eye for detail. I would highly recommend this company for any construction project.” ~Don M.

“Josh LaFrance is a true pleasure to work with! Communication and Craftsmanship are 2 key ingredients in a successful project and Josh excels at both. Josh and I worked on a magnificent project high on a ledge overlooking the ocean, his vision along with his ability to produce results in a timely manner with very high quality are unmatched. I would gladly work with him again and would recommend him for jobs large and small.” ~Aaron Sasseville

“Josh was exceptionally easy to work with, very attentive to our needs and desires, regularly on seen and in touch with us to assure things were to our satisfaction, highly flexible, and notably cost conscious without compromising quality. I’ve recommended him to our friends looking for a contractor.” ~Dr. Andre V.

“Josh LaFrance did several projects for me. I was always impressed with the quality of his work and the price he charged. I am a widow and it was very important for me to have someone I could trust. He did finish work for me, which was unbelievable, and other odd jobs. Josh not only does quality work at a reasonable price but is a High quality young man. If I could give him 10 stars I would.” ~Pam G.

At WoodStone Construction, we love to build stairs! This was a fun stair to build. We tied in the paneling and also custom made all the newel posts. Another coffered ceiling almost 20 feet off the floor. Also the arch window trim detail was custom fabricated on site with a great bead detail running along the inside frame. We went with square balasters. Simpl […]
  • Hidden Court
One project that I thoroughly enjoyed was working on a breathtaking 12,000 sq ft waterfront property in Cape Elizabeth, Maine called Hidden Court. This home was featured in House Beautiful magazine soon after the work was completed.  This was part of the homes library. This space was completely remodeled.  We added the windows to overlook the courtyard. The […]
