FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1.) I am thinking about remodeling my house.  Where do I start?

With a simple phone call.  We’ll schedule a 30 minute meeting, listen to your needs, and share our design ideas. Our years of practical field experience can really help you to realize a clear plan in accomplishing what you want. We’ll also prepare an estimate for your project and there is no fee for the initial consultation or estimate.

2.)  What do I need for the first meeting?

Your ideas, goals, and budget are a great start.

3.)  I had my initial meeting with WoodStone Construction, now what?

WoodStone will define the scope of the work as discussed and create a quote based on the discussions. Typically, you can expect to receive a quote within 5 days after meeting with us. Some estimates are even delivered within 24 hours.

4.) How long before work can start?

After plans are conceived, and permits have been issued, work can usually begin within two weeks.

5.) How long will my job take?

Each job is different, so broad generalities are difficult. Window replacement may take as little as 1 day, while an addition may take 2 months to complete. WoodStone Construction will give you a projected start date, as well as a projected completion date for your project, based upon the scope of the work required.

6.) After my project is complete, if I have a question, or a problem is WoodStone Construction available to me?

ABSOLUTELY! At WoodStone Construction, we are dedicated to our customers before, during, and AFTER their projects. We will do our best to help you through any concern you may have. Simply stated, we GUARANTEE our work for one year after completion of the project.

7.) What if I want to use my own subcontractors?

WoodStone Construction will support a client’s request for particular subcontractors when possible. However, please keep in mind that we have searched all of Shasta County to put together a team of the most excellent and economical subcontractors possible. Using a client’s friend as a subcontractor may cause delays if the chosen subcontractor’s skill level is not adequate or their other work interferes with our original scheduling outlined in your proposal.

8.) What if i need to get in touch with you while my project is in progress?

You will be given a project manager who will be accessible to you on a daily basis. They will be at your home almost everyday to check on the progress of the project and answer any questions or concerns you may have.

9.) Do you clean up when the job is completed?

Yes we do. We clean up and remove any and all debris caused by our job. Your home is left in “broom-clean” condition.

10.) Are you a licensed company?

Yes. We are a fully licensed remodeling company with the the State of California and the City of Redding. WoodStone Construction is a corporation with California general contractor’s license #954880.

11.) Is your company insured?

Yes. Upon request we’ll even issue a certificate of liability insurance making the customer the certificate holder.

12.) Are all licensed contractors considered general contractors?

No.  Currently, there are over 40 different types of contractor licenses issued in the state of California. Room additions and most kitchen and master bath remodels are best handled by a licensed general contractor, as these projects typically encompass demolition, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, flooring, painting, etc..

13.) Why should I choose a licensed general contractor for my remodeling project?

A good general contractor will put all the pieces together to deliver your dreams for a home remodel while taking full responsibility for the integrity of workmanship at all stages. They will also ensure that your project satisfies all state and local building codes. They manage all phases and all aspects of a remodeling project such as securing building permits, scheduling inspections, ordering building materials, and scheduling and supervising all trades required to complete your project.

14.) Can I work along side of you to reduce my costs?

Unfortunately not, our insurance carrier won’t allow that. However, some homeowners “finish” their projects themselves, after we are off site. We’ve worked with clients who have done everything from painting to flooring after we have gone. We are happy to accommodate your needs.

15.) What is an “allowance” on an estimate?

Your proposal may include allowances for changeable aspects of the project; if the allowance is exceeded, the difference is handled as an extra. For example, let’s suppose that our proposal allows for $5/sq. ft. for customer selected tile. The tile you end up choosing is $6/ sq. ft.. The difference, an additional $1/ sq. ft., is an extra, and will be added to your proposal price.

16.) What if I want to make changes after the project starts?

No problem. We want you to be happy and sometimes your decisions change once things get started. We try and keep good track of changes so you are aware of how they affect your budget. Once the project has begun, any desired changes that would alter the price will be processed as a written change order. WoodStone will estimate the cost of any desired changes and have the client sign a “Change Order” to the original proposal.

17.) Who is responsible for permit applications and fees?

WoodStone Construction can complete all the permit forms and make application with your municipality for permits. Once permits are approved, the homeowner will pay the permit fees in their municipalities. WoodStone Construction will coordinate all required inspections.

18.) Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. We offer an exclusive 1 year labor warranty which covers all labor. Generally, materials have limited warranties directly from their manufacturers.

19.) Will I have to hire anyone on my own such as plumbers, electricians, etc. in order to finish my project?

No. WoodStone Construction takes care of your complete home remodeling project from start to finish. We bring all of the necessary people and materials to your door, and take responsibility to ensure that things will go well throughout the process.

20.) What forms of payment do you accept?

WoodStone Construction accepts personal checks, cashier’s checks and most major credit cards.

21.) Do I need architectural plans?

It depends on the scope of work on your project. Small projects can be completed using a sketch by WoodStone. For larger projects, WoodStone Construction includes/provides architectural services through a trusted architectural firm. We are also happy to work with any architect you choose.
